Data released by the Joint Plant Committee of India showed that India's crude steel production in FY2021-22 (by the end of March 2022) rose by 16% YoY to 120 million tons, a record high compared with the historical record of 111 million tons in FY2018-19.
The growth of the production was mainly owing to the commissioning of the second blast furnace at JSW's Dolvi plant in Maharashtra in October 2021, doubling the annual capacity of Dolvi plant to 10 million tons. Previously, JSW had an annual production capacity of 18 million tons, which was increased to 21 . 5 million tons in March 2021 after the acquisition of BPSL, and now its capacity reached 26 million tons.
