Rusal halts alumina shipments from Ukraine

Russian aluminium producer Rusal, the world's top manufacturer of the metal outside China, has halted alumina shipments from its 1.75-Mtpa Nikolaev refinery, nearby the port of Mykolaiv in Ukraine, heightening disruptions to the alumina and aluminium market.
Alumina from the plant is transported to the Bratsk, Krasnoyarsk and Sayanogorsk smelters in Russia, which together produce 2.5 million tonnes of aluminum a year. In metal equivalent terms the Nikolaev refinery supports 75 kt/m or 900 kt/a of output, representing 23% of Rusal's primary aluminium production.
