Nanjing Walsin resumes copper rod production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 1 Mar 21 - Nanjing Walsin Metal Co., Ltd., one of main copper rod producers in eastern China, resumed production on February 16 with the output for February estimated at about 18,000t, down by around 7,000t from January, a source from the company disclosed to Asian Metal.
Due to the Spring Festival holiday, the company suspended copper rod production from February 6. "We resumed operation on February 16 and the output for February might be just around 18,000t," said the source last Friday, adding that the company ran at full capacity in January when production reached about 25,000t amid strong demand from downstream enameled wire producers, and expects to achieve the same production in March.
The company uses Southwire continuous casting and rolling equipment to produce copper rod with an annual capacity of 300,000t. Its copper rod production in 2020 was about 270,000t, down by around 20,000t from 2019. With domestic copper cathode 99.99%min as the main feedstock, the company sells most of copper rod to enameled wire and electric wire and cable producers in eastern and southern China.
Mainstream TCs for copper rod Ф8mm stood at RMB430-630/t (USD66.44-97.34/t) EXW in Chinese market last Friday, basically unchanged from early last week. As downstream clients successively return to the market after the holiday, TCs for Chinese copper rod Ф8mm are expected to edge up in the following week.
