Asian participants' views about titanium market

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 9 Jul 07 - There are many titanium products manufacturers in China, but the demand of titanium products stays slow and stable now, so suppliers in China would like to sell the materials to foreign markets.
A Tianjing-based dealer who usually purchases titanium products from manufacturers and sells the materials to local consumers believes that the demand in China is not enough to meet the supply of Chinese titanium products. "We would like to export titanium products to foreign markets, because it is very difficult to find some new consumers in China, and there are a lot of manufacturers in China," said the source.
The source offers RMB210-220/kg（USD27.6-28.9/kg） for titanium pipe and RMB180/kg(USD23.6/kg) for titanium plate, but has not made any deals this week.
Meanwhile, a Hebei-based smelter, with an output of 100-200tpm of titanium sponge, offers RMB105,000/t(USD13.8/kg) for titanium sponge 99.8-99.9%, RMB102,000/t(USD13.4/kg) for titanium sponge 99.7% and RMB98,000/t(USD12.9/kg) for titanium sponge 99.6% and mainly sells the materials to some long-term customers in China. "There is no new demand in the local market, and we only sells the materials to long-term customers," said the producer. "We would like to export the material to foreign markets."
The smelter plans to increase its output of titanium sponge to 400tpm by the end of this year.
Meanwhile, a source in Japan who usually deals tolling trade with Chinese manufacturers consumes about 1,500-2,000tpy of titanium products. "We usually supply titanium sponge 99.9% to Chinese manufacturers, and they produce titanium ingots for us," said the producer. "I think it is difficult for the market to move up further in a short time, because there are many producers in China."
According to the source, titanium sponge TG90 price is around USD16/kg in Russia, USD12/kg in Ukraine and USD11.5/kg in Japan. China produces about 30,000tpy of titanium sponge and plans to increase the output to 50,000tpy in the coming years, but the demand in whole world is 70,000-80,000tpy now.
