Qinyang Carbon to invest a prebaked anode project in Guizhou

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 26 Oct 20 - Qinyang Carbon Co. Ltd., a big prebaked anode producer in China, is scheduled to build a prebaked anode project in Xingren of Guizhou from late this year, with the first stage production capacity at 300,000tpy, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
"We would start construction of the project with a production capacity of 300,000tpy from late this year," said the source, adding that the first stage has two production lines and the first stage with a production capacity of 150,000tpy might begin operation from the middle of next year. The overall designed production capacity keeps at 600,000tpy.
According to the source, they invest the project together with Guizhou Denggao New Material Co., Ltd., a major aluminum smelter in the local market with present aluminum smelting capacity at 250,000tpy, which would improve to 500,000tpy in the middle of next year. The first stage might cost RMB550 (USD82) million, 65% from Qinyang Carbon and 35% from Denggao New Material. After operation, they would mainly supply prebaked anode internally to Denggao New Material. From the middle of next year, Qinyang Carbon would become the second biggest prebaked anode producer in China with a production capacity of 1 million tons per year. Currently, they have prebaked anode plants in Henan and Inner Mongolia, with the total production capacity at 700,000tpy.
Current mainstream prebaked anode prices in China keep at RMB3,050-3,500/t (USD456-524/t) delivered, which would rise by around RMB100/t (USD15/t) from early next month, supported by the high pet coke and coal tar pitch costs.
