Shanxi government announced its action plan to fight against air pollution during autumn and winter at a press conference held on October 21
Shanxi, already cutting coking capacity of 11.92 million tons, will push ahead with the elimination of coking capacity this year . In particular, the government aims to close all coking furnaces (chamber height≤4 . 3m) in Taiyuan and its surrounding 30 regions.
The coal-fired generation units have realized ultra-low emissions across the province and Shanxi will advance the ultra-low emission transformation of 24 iron and steel companies by the end of 2020. Of which, 17 companies have already completed transformation and the rest are fast-tracking the process.
To optimize the layout of regional industry, Shanxi will push ahead with the relocation or shutdown of 50 highly polluting companies in built-up areas and nearby regions. The coal-free zone will cover an area of 5,816 sq km.
From November 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021, major gas emission companies from industries such as steel, nonferrous, coking, chemical engineering, construction material and casting will make off-peak production by resorting to control measures.
. In order to win the battle for blue skies, ensure continuous improvements in air quality, and meet its annual environmental quality objectives on schedule, Shanxi will focus on structural adjustment in four major sectors, namely industry, energy, transportation and land, the joint prevention and control mechanism in Taiyuan and surrounding 30 regions, as well as measures to tackle air pollution.
