SBG suspends bauxite production in Guinea

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 18 Aug 20 - SBG, a new bauxite producer in Guinea, suspended production from early July and produced around 50,000t last month but no production in August, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
"We suspended production from early last month for the heavy rain and might resume in early October after rainy season," said the source, who started bauxite production from early May and has produced around 200,000t so far this year and did not start export.
The source noted that they might start bauxite transportation and export in late October, when they will finish the port construction.
Based on the annual production capacity of 8 million tons, they plan to produce around 300,000t in 2020.
Located in Kindia of Guinea, the project, around 200km away to the port, has the proven reserves of around 300 million tons and mainly provides bauxite Al2O3 45%min SiO2 2%max.
Besides, they are seeking partners to build an alumina refinery in Guinea with a production capacity of 1.6 million tons per year.
Current mainstream prices of Guinean bauxite Al2O3 45%min SiO2 3%max keep at USD44.5-45.5/t CIF China and most buyers still carry out old contracts closed in Q2 at USD41-43/t CIF China.
