Aras Kuasa delays to resume bauxite production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 12 Mar 20 - Aras Kuasa Sdn Bhd., a big bauxite producer in Malaysia, once planned to resume production in early March but failed to realize the plan for the leadership change in Malaysia.
A source from the company reported to Asian Metal that Malaysia had a new premier since early this month. "We did not get the new mining approval last week, as it will take time for the leadership transition," said the source, noting that they might get mining approval and resume production one month later.
Based on the production capacity of 1.2 million tons per year, they suspended production on January 20 for the mining license expiration and produced around 60,000t in January. They focus on production of bauxite Al2O3 50%min SiO2 7%max and hold around 140,000t in stock now.
In 2019, they produced around 500,000t, up from around 300,000t in 2018. They mainly export bauxite to China.
Current mainstream prices for bauxite Al2O3 50%min SiO2 7%max stand at USD36-37/t FOB Malaysia.
