Antam aims at 2 million tonnes of bauxite in 2019

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 4 Dec 19 - PT. ANTAM (Persero) Tbk., a big bauxite producer in Indonesia, is scheduled to produce around 2 million tonnes of bauxite in 2019, up from around 1.1 million tonnes in 2018, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
According to the source, they got a total of 1.6 million tonnes of bauxite export quota in 2019. "We are going to finish the last two shipments with a volume of around 110,000t in December," said the source, which might get a new quota in March next year. They now hold around 100,000t in stock.
Located in Kalimantan of Indonesia, their bauxite mining areas have the total estimated reserves of around 200 million tonnes, and the current annual production capacity stands at 3.8 million tonnes.
In 2019, they exported all bauxite to China and plan to export less in 2020, as they will resume the chemical alumina refinery next year with a production capacity of 300,000tpy and need to consume bauxite by themselves. They plan to export around 150,000t of chemical grade alumina next year.
Besides, they plan to start the construction of a metallurgical grade alumina refinery in late 2020, with an annual production capacity of 1 million tonnes. The construction might spend two years.
