Construction of railway from Mongolia Tavan Tolgoi mine to Gashuun Sukhait starts in Aug

On July 24, the government of Mongolia held a meeting and decided to officially start the construction of the 208.5km railway from Tavan Tolgoi coal mine to Gashuun Sukhait on the China-Mongolia border from August 15. The railway is scheduled to be completed and put into use in 2021. The meeting also decided that the railway project would be built by Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi JSC, 66% of which would be controlled by Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi, and the remaining 34% would be controlled by Mongolia Railway Co., Ltd.
"The construction of the railway from Tavan Tolgoi coal mine to Gashuun Sukhait has cost us USD280 million (MNT736.4 billion), and is said to have completed 56-60% of the total project, Besides, China has completed the construction of the railway to Gashuun Sukhait. The railway link between the two countries will be benefit to Mongolia's coal exports. By then, Tavan Tolgoi coal mine's profits are likely to be at least six times of the current MNT800 billion." Hain Silva, a member of the Mongolia's Great Hural, said in April.
The railway, which runs through several counties in South Omnogovi Province, will allow Mongolia to export more than 30 million tons of coking coal annually.
