The mine, an open-pit mine in Queensland's Bowen Basin, is 100% owned by Middlemount Coal Ltd. The Coal company is 50-50 split between Yancoal Australia and Peabody Energy.
The Middlemount mine has a production capacity of about 4.1 million tons of commercial coal and 4 . 5 million tons of raw coal, mainly producing medium-volatile PCI coal and semi-hard coking coal . The coal produced by the mine is mainly exported to China and other Asian countries.
