India's dependence on Australian coking coal weakened in recent years, while imports from the U
India imported 36.91 million tons of coking coal from Australia in the FY2018-19 (April 2018 to March 2019), accounting for 71% of India's total coking coal imports which is far lower than the 88% three years ago, according to Indian Coal Ministry . Australia's coal supplies were disrupted frequently in the past few years. Besides, heavy rains in February in the country's main coal-producing region and the tropical cyclone in Queensland in 2017 severely affected coal production . However, India's Adani Enterprises expects an increase in Australian thermal coal exports to India after the Carmichael mine project in Australia is put into production. The mine is expected to come on stream within two years.
