Chinese aluminum hydroxide sales volume increase

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 25 Jan 18 - Although alumina prices rebounded a bit this month, aluminum hydroxide prices did not follow the trend and stood at the low level of RMB1,800-1,950/t (USD282-305/t) EXW. Downstream consumers started adding stocks in January and deals increased. Prices may keep stable before Chinese New Year.
A Shandong-based aluminum hydroxide producer reported that their sales volume has touched 4,000t until early this week in January. "However, we only sold 3,000t in total last month," said the source, adding that their sales price is around RMB1,800/t (USD282/t) EXW, the same with last month.
According to the source, consumers were prudent in adding stocks last December for the expectation that aluminum hydroxide prices may go down. However, the market gets support this month.
The alumina and aluminum hydroxide refinery is running fully at the annual capacity of 1 million tonnes and holds no stock.
A Guangxi-based aluminum hydroxide producer confirmed that their sales volume until this week has reached 3,000t, while the total volume in the previous month was only around 2,000t. "The price last month was RMB1,950-1,980/t (USD305-310/t)," said the source, adding that the mainstream price consolidated at RMB1,950/t (USD305/t) this month. Therefore, buyers stopped the watching attitude.
The refinery is running fully at the capacity of 800,000tpy and holds around 300t in stock.
