BEIJING (Asian Metal) 10 Jan 18 - Late last month, Malaysia lifted the bauxite export ban and allows bauxite owners to clear stocks in the port
A Malaysian bauxite owner reported that they may get export approval ten days later. "We now hold around 400,000t of bauxite Al2O3 40-42% SiO2 4-5% in the port, but we plan to provide with washed bauxite Al2O3 45-46% SiO2 5%max in the near future," said the source, adding that they will find buyers by improving the quality.
According to the source, their export price for bauxite Al2O3 42%min SiO2 4%max was around USD30/t FOB Malaysia in August last year. Based on the annual capacity of 3 million tonnes, the owner exported around 1 . 8 million tonnes last year and is out of production now.
A Malaysian bauxite agent noted that they will supply with washed bauxite Al2O3 48-49% SiO2 8%max in late February or early March, as Chinese demand for low grade bauxite becomes weak after Indonesia resumed bauxite export. "We will refer to the price of USD47/t CIF China from Indonesia," said the source.
After the Spring Festival, they will be able to provide with around 150,000t of washed bauxite per month based on the capacity of 200,000tpm.
The agent did not deal with bauxite in 2017 due to the unstable policy in Malaysia and holds no stock now.
. However, Chinese demand for low grade Malaysian bauxite Al2O3 40%min SiO2 5%max becomes weak because of rising high-grade Indonesian and Guinean bauxite supply . Therefore, Malaysian bauxite suppliers manage to provide with washed high-grade bauxite Al2O3 48%min SiO2 5-8%. The current price for Indonesian bauxite Al2O3 48%min SiO2 8%max is around USD47/t CIF China and Malaysian bauxite suppliers will refer to the price.
