Ferroalloy price in Ulanqab slightly down MOM in Jan 2017

According to data from Ulanqab Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, prices for ferroalloy in Ulanqab slightly went down MOM in January. Average price for silicomanganese was RMB7,600/t (USD1,104/t), up by 74.7% YOY, down by 9.5% MOM; average price for ferronickel was RMB10,010/t (USD1,454/t), up by 30% YOY, and down by 7.1% MOM; average price for ferrochrome was RMB9,700/t (USD1,409/t), up by 84.8% YOY, down by 3% MOM. Main reasons are as follow:
As production costs for raw material reduced, prices for ferroalloy slightly dropped. Prices for imported raw material in January 2017 lost the upward trend in December 2017. According to relative investigations and surveys, for silicomanganese ore, average price for South African origin silicomanganese ore reduced from RMB2,356/t (USD342/t) in December 2016 to RMB2,090/t (USD304/t), down by 11.3%; average prices for Australian and Brazilian origin silicomanganese ore declined from RMB3,225/t (USD469/t) to RMB2,881/t (USD419/t), down by 10.7%; as for chrome ore, average price for South African origin chrome ore dropped from RMB3,045/t (USD442/t) in December 2016 to RMB2,814/t (USD409/t), down by 7.6%; average price for Turkish origin chrome ore went down from RMB3,633/t (USD528/t) to RMB3,339/t (USD485/t), down by 8.1%; for nickel ore, average price for Philippine origin nickel ore decreased from RMB390/t (USD56.67/t) in December 2016 to RMB370/t (USD53.76/t), down by 5.1%.
At present, supply and demand basically reach balanced in ferroalloy market. Production costs largely supported the price structure for the product. In general, price trend was mainly affected by changes on raw material prices and demand from steel mills.
