Price of antimony in Europe still rising

BEIJING (AsianMetal) 20 Jun 05 – Most European dealers and consumers who dealing with antimony believe the price for antimony will keep climbing.
A British trader just finished one purchase later last week with the price at around USD3400/t. “I believe the price of antimony will continue to go up, therefore I think this price is not bad,” the trader told AsianMetal .
“There are still some stockpiles in the European market, so the price of antimony is not going to jump up dramatically, but it is going to rise for sure.”
The trader said that a major smelter in China just halted its production for equipment maintanence is another reason for the market will not fall down within a short period.
A major antimony trioxide producer told AsianMetal that his prediction of animony price would reach USD3500/T very soon, and maybe USD3700/t or even higher by the end of the year.
“We watch the market everyday, and the last purchase we made was earlier this week. We bought from a very close relationship with the price at USD3350/t because the seller needed money . This is a fantastic price for us!”
“The price will definitely go up! With the growing domestic consumption, Chinese government is trying to control the export quantity.” As he refered to the export tax rebate decrease in May, this producer also mentioned the price of antimony in 1994 was over USD6000/t.
An Italian consumer reported to AsianMetal that the current ex warehouse price in Italy is USD3500/t. He was a little confused how antimony reached this price. And the ex warehouse price for antimony trioxide is USD3000/t .
While most business agree that the price of antimony would go up, there are still some dealers who think the price will drop some due to the slow season is coming very soon.
