Hebei to reduce 31.86 million tonnes of iron and steel capacity in 2017

Zhang Qingwei, Governor of Hebei Province, said on the 8th, 2017, that Hebei will cut 31.86 million tonnes of iron and steel capacity in 2017.
The high-pollution, high-emission industrial structure formed a long time ago and the coal-based energy structure are the primary causes of serious air pollution in Hebei. In order to control air pollution, Hebei started to vigorously implement the "6643" project from 2013 onwards, aiming at cutting 60 million tonnes of iron and steel, 61 million tonnes of cement, 40 million tonnes of standard coal and 36 million weight cases of glass capacity by 2017.
Zhang Qingwei said that Hebei will persist in taking on "capacity reduction" as the primary target, especially in the iron and steel industries, strictly implement laws and regulations of environmental protection, energy consumption, quality and safety, strengthen the policy guidance, and strictly inspect and verify enterprises to avoid capacity expansion in 2017. Hebei will cut 15.62 million tonnes of steel and 16.24 million tonnes of iron capacity, and shut down 4 "zombie enterprise" in 2017, speed up cutting all iron and steel capacity in Langfang, Baoding and Zhangjiakou and part capacity in Chengde and Qinghuadao.
At the same time, Hebei will speed up capacity reduction in other industries. In specific, Hebei will reduce 7.42 million tons of coal, 1.1 million tonnes of cement and 5 million weight cases of flat glass capacity
According to the Hebei provincial government work report, in 2016, Hebei totally cut 16.24 million tonnes of steel, 17.61 million tonnes of iron, 2.86 million tonnes of cement, 21.89 million weight cases of flat glass and 14 million tonnes of coal capacity, and shut down 54 coal mines, outperforming the annual target
