Chinese imported alumina stocks by month (Unit: kt)
The graph above shows that the imported alumina stocks in China decreased significantly in late May as the volume of imported alumina arrived at ports witnessed a remarkable decline in China. According to statistics from China Customs, only 100,000t of imported alumina was arrived at ports in China in April, down by 72% MOM . According to Asian Metal, the volume was only around 180,000t in May . Therefore, stocks of imported alumina recorded a dramatic drop at ports.
Lianyungang port indicated that only one ship of the material will arrive in June, and electrolytic aluminum producers reduced the consumption for imported alumina. Some consumers who had signed contracts with suppliers resold the imported alumina to consumers in the Middle East; as a result, it is predicted that stocks of imported alumina will remain at a low level in June.
