Liaoning titanium sponge price up

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 15 Mar 16 – Sources from Liaoning reported to Asian Metal that the mainstream transaction prices of titanium sponge 99.8%min stand around RMB44,500-46,000/t (USD6,835-7,066/t) ex works currently, an increase of about RMB1,000/t (USD152/t) compared with the quotations reported two weeks ago. Taking the stable demand of the material from the downstream consumers but increased production cost into consideration, it’s expected that the price for titanium sponge will keep firm in the coming week.
A titanium sponge producer in North China revealed that the price for titanium sponge 99.7%min stands around RMB45,000/t (USD6,912/t) ex works at present, an increase of about RMB1,000/t (USD152/t) from that of early last week. The producer concluded no transaction since he raised the price but he conveyed that they would not take orders lower than the current offers. “We increased the price last week and the downstream consumers hesitate in adding stocks these days,” said the source, adding that he believes the consumers have to accept the price if they have to purchase spot material in the near term.
The producer, who owns an annual production capacity of 10,000 tons, produced 800 tons of titanium sponge last month. He holds less than300 tons of stock now.
“The downstream consumers have difficulty in concluding deals at RMB44,000/t (USD6,758/t) ex works for titanium sponge 99.7%min this week as we marked up the price of the material last week due to the tight supply, ” said a producer in North China, who echoed that their mainstream transaction prices for titanium sponge stand around RMB45,000/t (USD6,990/t) ex works for titanium sponge 99.7%min and RMB46,000/t (USD6,990/t) ex works for titanium sponge 99.8%min currently, an increase of around RMB1,000/t (USD152/t) compared with those after the Spring Festival holiday. He mentioned that the current daily output cannot meet the needs of the consumers.
