BEIJING (Asian Metal) 7 Jan 16 - In early January, Chinese aluminum ingot prices rebounded a bit and smelters began adding prebaked anode stocks for upcoming Spring Festival. However, prebaked anode prices remain at low levels of RMB2,500-2,600/t (USD381-397/t) ex works
A Shandong-based prebaked anode producer reported that their concluded prices remained at RMB3,350/t (USD511/t) d.d . p in Xinjiang market . “Some consumers start adding stocks, and we can sell out all products,” said the source, adding that they hold no stock.
According to the source, they may be able to produce around 20,000t of prebaked anode in January, the same with that in the previous month. In 2015, they produced around 230,000t of carbon anode, unchanged compared with that in 2014 . However, they plan to have an overall maintenance in 2016, so the outputs may decline a bit this year.
A Henan-based prebaked anode producer confirmed that their selling price to Qinghai remained at around RMB3,100/t (USD473/t) d.d . p, on a par with that in last month . “We sold around 1,000-2,000t of the material over the past week,” said the source, adding that they hold around 1,000t in stock.
The plant is running fully at the capacity of 150,000tpy. They produced around 80,000t of the material in 2015, down from 150,000t in 2014 . The source explained that they halted production for twice in 2015 due to Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit and Military Parade.
The source predicted that it is difficult for prebaked anode prices to move up, as aluminum ingot smelters are in tight money supply due to losses.
