Chinese prebaked anode export prices continue to stay at low levels

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 16 Dec 15 - In the past few months, Chinese prebaked anode export prices moved down step by step. Chinese exporters are pessimistic about the price in early 2016 and predicted that most deals will be concluded at below USD500/t FOB China. Some exporters may choose watching the market due to low prices.
A Chinese prebaked anode exporter reported that they may export 300,000t of the material in 2015, basically the same with that in 2014. “However, the price is low at around USD510/t FOB China for deals to mid-east,” said the source, who predicted that the price may go down to below USD500/t FOB China next month due to price decline in China.
In addition, he noted that export prices to Russia may continue to stay at the low level of USD430-440/t FOB China next month. Looking ahead, he believed that most export deals will be concluded at below USD500/t FOB China next year. “Based on the annual capacity of 280,000t, we can produce a bit more each year,” said the source, adding that they hold no stock.
Another Chinese prebaked anode exporter confirmed that the current export market is sluggish. “We exported around 40,000t of the material last year, but volumes are less than 20,000t this year,” said the source.
He explained that their export price to Russia was around USD500/t FOB China last year, but dropped to around USD440/t recently and they could not accept the low price. They only concluded some deals in the first half in 2015 in the export market. “We focused on Chinese domestic market this year,” said the source.
Based on the annual capacity of 180,000t, they may produce around 140,000t of carbon anode in 2015 and hold no stock.
