AM Statistics: Chinese demand for imported bauxite down by 4.6% MOM in November

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 1 Dec 15 - According to Asian Metal Database, Chinese demand for imported bauxite declined by around 4.6% MOM to around 4.6 million tonnes in November. Meanwhile, data shows that imported bauxite stocks dipped by 0.57% MOM to around 31.3 million tonnes in late November.

In November, Chinese alumina prices continued to move down and most refineries suffered losses, so they cut production, leading to soft demand for imported bauxite. Due to the soft demand, prices for bauxite from Malaysia, Australia and India went down. For example, low grade Malaysian bauxite prices declined by USD1-2/t to USD28-29/t FOB Malaysia.
Chinese bauxite consumers replenished plenty of stocks in Q3, so they reduced bauxite imports from October. In addition, rainy season started from late November in Malaysia and local owners suspended or cut exports. Therefore, imported bauxite stocks in China declined a bit in late November.
