Recently, three mineralized belts have been found in Tianbao town of Zhuxin county in Hubei by
the provincial Geological Survey Institute of Hubei Geological Bureau. The average grade of the three niobium mineralized belts is up to 0.074%, with characteristics of large scale, steady grades and well consistency and the prospective reserves can reach above 1 billion tons with the prospecting potential as large mineral deposits.
Niobium belongs to the rare mineral resources for China’ s strategic emerging industries. The annual global niobium consumption has reached 20,000 tons and is still on the upward tendency. China Geological Survey has incorporated niobium metal in the project of investigation on minerals in strategic emerging industries of 2015.
The discovery of the three mineral belts has provided significant guidance to the mineral prospecting work in South Qinling Mountains. It is believed that large and oversize niobium mines can be discovered through further mineral prospecting work in Zhuxi area, which will provide important strategic mineral resources for the economic and social development in Hubei province.
