  • Japanese steel export amounted at 3483000 tonnes in August

    The Japan Iron & Steel Federation has gathered and released statistics on steel export (all steel basis) of August 2011.

    According to this, steel export in August was 3,483,000 tonnes. Export amount in dollar was 4.353 billion and that in yen was JPY 335.3 billion. Compared with the same month last year, quantity decreased by 2.9% for 6 months in a row, and amount in dollar increased by 12.4% for 20 months in a row, and that in yen also increase by 1.4% for 2 months in a row. Compared with the previous month, quantity increased by 4.9% for the first time in 2 months, and amount also increased by 3.5% in dollar and 0.3% in yen both for the first time in 2 months.

    Export of ordinary steel was 2,404,000 tonnes, up 3.0% from the same month last year for the first time in 6 months, and also 12.6% from the previous month for the first time in 2 months.

    By item with % compared with the same month last year, hot rolled steel coils (786 thousand tons, up 19.9%) increased for 2 months in a row, cold-rolled steel coils (336 thousand tons, up 3.8%) did for 2 months in a row, electrical steel sheets/coils (88 thousand tons, up 24.1%) did for the first time in 3 months, shapes and sections (73 thousand tons, up 7.7%) did for 5 months in a row, and wire rods (54 thousand tons, up 21.1%) did for 2 months in a row. While, galvanized steel sheets/coils (464 thousand tons, down 11.1%) decreased for 6 months in a row, steel plates (284 thousand tons, down 0.7%) did for 2 months in a row, welded/forged pipes/tubes (77 thousand tons, down 12.7%) did for 10 months in a row, seamless pipes/tubes (58 thousand tons, down 2.5%) did for the first time in 3 months, and steel bars (26 thousand tons, down 27.0%) did for the first time in 2 months.

    By item with % compared with the previous month, wire rods (by 37.6%), hot coils (by 21.0%), plates (by 17.1%), electrical sheets/coils (by 16.2%), galvanized sheets/coils (by 11.3%), seamless pipes/tubes (by 11.0%), cold coils (by 6.2%), shapes and sections (by 2.4%) and so forth increased respectively. While, bars (by 15.7%), welded/forged pipes/tubes (by 9.3%), and so forth decreased respectively.

    By destination on all steel basis with % compared with the same month last year, export quantity to the biggest Korea (694 thousand tons, down 25.9%) decreased for 9 months in a row, and that to China (605 thousand tons, down 0.3%) did for 5 months in a row. While, export quantity to Thailand (470 thousand tons, up 7.0%) increased for 2 months in a row, that to Taiwan (298 thousand tons, up 6.8%) did for 2 months in a row, and that to USA (155 thousand tons, up 15.6%) did for the first time in 2 months.
