On January 12, the Swedish state-owned mining company LKAB state that in Kiruna, a region in northern Sweden, it discovered the largest rare earth element deposit ever recorded in Europe, containing over 1 million tons of rare earth oxide resources.
The company plans to file application for a mining permit for the deposit this year. But even it is granted the permit, ten to fifteen years are still needed before the company can mine ores and provide products to the market.
