According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China sees rapid growth in the production and sales of new energy vehicle (NEV) during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), ranking first globally for five consecutive years since 2015
In addition, during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, Chinese NEV makers have achieved promising results in terms of innovation in core technologies such as battery, motor and electronic control system. China now holds a leading position in power battery technology. For example, the energy density of unit cell reaches 270WH/Kg, up by 220% compared to 2012, and the price stands at RMB1.0/WH (USD0.15/WH), an 80% drop from 2012 . Meanwhile the supply of NEV continues to improve along with mass production of vehicle with mileage exceeding 500km . As of August 2020, China has built 41,000 charging stations, 462 battery-swap stations and 1 . 38 million charging piles across the country, making itself much more NEV-friendly.
