Tianqi Lithium plans to expand Talison's annual lithium concentrate capacity

On the evening of July 24, Tianqi Lithium announced that it had approved a proposal to agree to Talison's expansion plan for lithium concentrate. According to the proposal, Talison Lithium, controlled by Tianqi Lithium, will expand chemical grade lithium concentrate production in the Greenbush Western Australia. The expansion project includes the construction of a large independent, dedicated chemical grade lithium concentrate production facility with an annual processing capacity of 2.4 million tons, a new ore crushing facility with an annual handling capacity of 4.8 million tons, and the infrastructures to support the subsequent expansion. It is expected that the project would be completed and put into trial production in Q4 2020. The project is expected to increase the production capacity of chemical grade lithium concentrate to 1.8 million tons per year by 2021. The cost of the expansion is about AUD516 million.
Talison mainly supplies lithium concentrate for its two shareholders, i.e. Tianqi Lithium and Albemarle Corporation, and their increasing demand for lithium concentrate promotes Talison to expand its existing tin concentrate production scale.
At present, Talison has submitted the necessary regulatory approval application, and is under discussion with the contractor about constructions.
