Iron and steel enterprises in Langfang to eliminate capacity completely by late 2019

“By the end of 2016, there were 4 iron and steel enterprises in operation in Langfang. According to the capacity-cutting mission (“6643 task”) assigned by provincial government, Langfang needed to reduce 4.12 million tons of iron capacity and 1.70 million tons of steel capacity in 2017. As of the end of 2019, the 4 iron and steel enterprises in Langfang shall eliminate all their capacity,” said Sui Zhiwen, the deputy director of the development and reform commission of Langfang, during the press conference held by Langfang Government Press Office concerning the construction of the city’s ecological civilization on July 20th.
By the end of 2016, Langfang had eliminated 3.60 million tons of iron capacity and 1.70 million tons of steel capacity. According to relevant requirements from the government, the 4 iron and steel enterprises in Langfang shall eliminate all their capacity as of the end of 2019 with one enterprise expected to be shutdown in 2017.
Langfang will fulfill the task by sticking to principles of enterprise dominant, market operation, government promotion and policy support, as well as by bringing in strategic investors for acquisition. At the same time, the safety production, staff resettlement, social stability and debt-resolving shall be guaranteed. Along with the capacity-cutting mission, Langfang will also carry out an overall transformation of local downstream iron and steel consuming enterprises through the application of PPP (Public-Private-Partnership) financing pattern, in order to actively cultivate new industries, restore ecological environment, promote urban and rural construction level and achieve the new development mode of “A regional transformation and development by promoting industrial transformation and upgrading through the transformation and upgrading of enterprises.”
