Baotou Rare Earth High-tech Zone embraces a Rare-earth-driven Battery Project of RMB1.2 trillion (USD174 million) investment

On 10 April, Baotou Rare Earth High-tech Zone signed a contract with Baotou Haoming Rare-earth & New-energy Technology Co., Ltd. on Baotou Rare-earth Rare-earth-driven Battery Project.
Located in Baotou Rare Earth High-tech Zone and with a land area of 46,666m2 and a building area of 27,121m2, the project has a total investment of RMB2 trillion (USD290 million) and an designed annual production capacity of 1.2 trillion Ah of rare earth-driven battery. The project consists of three phases. The first phase, with an investment of RMB200 million (USD29.04 million), will have a 200-million-An rare-earth-driven battery production line built in 2018, which can provide batteries for 1,600 12-meter-long pure electric buses, and realize an annual sales income of RMB600 million; The second phase will have a 870-million-An rare-earth-driven battery production line built in 2019, which can provide batteries for 6,490 pure electric buses; and the last phase will have the total 1.2-trillion-An rare-earth-driven battery production line completed in 2020, which can provide batteries for 10,000 pure electric buses. With all the phases going into operation, the whole project can realize a total annual sales income of RMB10 trillion (USD1.45 trillion).
This project is a significant move for Baotou city to restructure its industries, change development model and extend its industrial chains. Particularly, it is of great importance for setting up a high-end application chain for rare earth and developing new-energy-driven vehicles.
