BEIJING (Asian Metal) 31-Jan-05 Although the market of selenium dioxide is in the quiet conditions and few transactions are concluded, suppliers still raise the price steadily for they reckoned that consumers might place large orders in the forthcoming weeks and the price would surge up then.
“Our price of selenium dioxide is about rmb730/kg, slightly higher than that last week,” a trader told Asian Metal. He reported that the amounts of transactions are limited now for manganese producers, who are the major consumers of selenium dioxide, purchase inactively due to the extremely unstable manganese production caused by the power shortage . While, these consumers could accept the increasing price if they purchase the raw materials as the supply of selenium dioxide is still tight .
However, it is hard to tell how far the price would go. “I have no idea of the highest level that consumers could accept, but sources reported that the price might jump to as high as rmb800/kg. I thought that it’s not easy to get the level of rmb800/kg in short term,” added the trader.
Meanwhile, a second trader reported that currently he sell the materials at around rmb750/kg, up from rmb710/kg seen last week. The trader with two tons spot materials now intends to purchase some lots for he deemed the price would continue jumping up in the coming weeks.
