BEIJING (Asian Metal) 13 Oct 08 – Some market sources reported that dysprosium oxide demand keeps steady and it is difficult to buy dysprosium oxide at RMB600/kg (USD88/kg) now.
A source from a smelter in South China reported that dysprosium oxide supply is tight at present. “We always want to buy dysprosium oxide,” said the source. “However, some separation plants do not want to sell, even the price is at RMB600/kg (USD88/kg).”
According to the source, the smelter needs about five tons of dysprosium oxide per month to produce ferrodysprosium 80% Dy, and offers RMB650/kg (USD96/kg) for ferrodysprosium 80% Dy, compared with RMB630/kg (USD93/kg) previously.
A source from a separation plant in South China expressed that the plant has stopped offering for dysprosium oxide. “I am optimistic towards dysprosium oxide market,” said the source, and revealed that the last deal of dysprosium oxide was concluded at RMB600/kg two weeks ago .
Meanwhile, the source learned that two major separation plants for dysprosium oxide in Jiangxi, whose dysprosium oxide monthly output is around 15 tons respectively, have stopped production since late September.
According to the source, the plant maintains its dysprosium oxide output of around eight tons per month, and only has a few tons in stock now.
