Shanxi Hongda breaks ground on 1Mtpa steel strip casting and rolling project

Shanxi Hongda Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. recently stated construction of its steel strip casting and rolling project with a production capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum. In order to optimize product mix and speed up transition to high-quality steel products, the company cooperated with Baowu Group and Sinosteel Corporation to invest RMB1.5 billion (USD209 million) in the first domestic-made steel strip casting and rolling production line project launched in China.
The project will build a KR process hot metal pre-treatment system, a 100-ton VD refining furnace, two twin-roll casting machines and associated facilities, mainly producing hot-rolled carbon steel, silicon steel, and high-strength steel plate, which are expected to replace the imported products. The project is currently in the phase of ground engineering.
