Rizhao Steel to replace iron and steel production capacity

Rizhao Steel Holding Group's phase two iron and steel making capacity replacement scheme was made public from June 16 to July 14, 2023 by the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Shandong Province and no objection was received.
According to the public disclosure, Rizhao Steel plans to build a blast furnace with iron-making capacity of 7.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) and a rotating furnace with steel-making capacity of 1.35Mtpa through a capacity replacement program where the company plans to shut down iron-making capacity of 8.3Mtpa and steel-making capacity of 1.7Mtpa. The newly-planned furnaces are scheduled to begin construction in 2024, with capacity expected to come on stream in 2026.
