BEIJING (Asian Metal) 1 May 23 - Upon the high production cost and tight spot supply, the current mainstream prices of silicon metal 4-4-1 in China stand at RMB15,800-16,300/t (USD2,282-2,354/t) delivered this week, unchanged from early last week. Given the increasing supply in Sichuan in May, insiders foresee the mainstream prices of silicon metal 4-4-1 in China would go down next week.
A consumer in Henan revealed that the current offer for silicon metal 4-4-1 from a regular supplier in Inner Mongolia stands at RMB15,800/t (USD2,282/t) delivered with no discount with prompt delivery supported by the tight spot supply in the market, in line with the supplier's price early last week, and he didn't purchase yet. "Another regular supplier in Sichuan offered him RMB15,600/t (USD2,253/t) delivered with the cargo shipment in the middle of May, and I hang up purchases upon the dropping price trend and enough stock," revealed the consumer last Friday. He added that he last bought 100t at RMB16,500/t (USD2,383/t) in early April, he predicts the mainstream prices of silicon metal 4-4-1 in China would go down next week.
The consumer, based on an annual silicon metal consumption capacity of 3,500t, expects to consume about 100t in April, down by about 100t from last month, holding around 100t in stock.
Another consumer in Shandong revealed that the current offer for silicon metal 4-4-1 from a regular supplier in North China stands at RMB15,800/t (USD2,282/t) delivered with no discount supported by the high production cost, in line with his price early last week, and he didn't purchase yet. "I last purchased 100t at RMB16,000/t (USD2,311/t) from the supplier two weeks ago, and my consumption in April would cut by at least half due to the shrinking demand of our ending products, and out staff would take five days labor holiday but only one day holiday last year," revealed the consumer last Friday. Upon the shrinking demand and increasing supply in South China, he foresees the mainstream prices of silicon metal 4-4-1 in China would go down next week.
