BMI plans to build one alumina refinery

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 28 Apr 23 - Bautek Minerals Industrials (BMI), a major bauxite producer in Brazil, plans to build one alumina refinery with the annual production capacity of 2 million tonnes, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
"We are targeting the construction of one alumina refinery with the annual production capacity of 2 million tonnes," said the source, adding that they would start construction after securing all requested feasibility reports and the construction would last for one year.
In early 2023, they received a new mining license for the mining area in north Brazil with the proven bauxite serves of around 200 million tonnes, which will provide bauxite for the planned alumina refinery. The budget would cost around USD300 million . Currently, they mainly produce calcined bauxite with the monthly production volume stabilizing at around 3,000t, based on the production capacity of 60,000tpy.
Current mainstream prices for calcined bauxite 90%min in the local market stand at USD445-455/t delivered in the local market, stable form two weeks ago. The local purchase activities remain active.
