Gnasu Huazang halted production of black silicon carbide

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 25 Apr 23 – Gansu Huazang Abrasive Materials Co., Ltd., a main black silicon carbide producer in Gansu, halted their production of black silicon carbide since 17th April due to the sluggish market demand, and they produced about 800t this month.
"We stopped our black silicon carbide production on 17th April because of the terrible sales and huge inventory pressure", a source from the company revealed, adding that they predict to resume production in early June if the market demand recovered at that time.
With an annual production capacity of 50,000t, the company produced about 22,000t in the previous year and they estimate to have same production volume in 2023 considering the dormant market. They hold over 2,000t in stock at the moment, increased by 25% MoM.
The present prevailing prices of black silicon carbide 98%min 10-30cm Fe2O3 0.5%max free C 0.2%max stand at RMB7,800/t (USD1,331/t) EXW D/A 180 days in Gansu, down by RMB100/t (USD14/t) from late last week. The market saw shrinking deals this month due to the dim end market. However, in light of the high production costs, insiders think that the prevailing prices of Chinese black silicon carbide would keep stable in the forthcoming week.
