Chinese niobium oxide market prices decrease

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 25 Apr 23 - As columbite prices showed downtrend, Chinese niobium oxide suppliers lowered their prices in the past week. The current mainstream prices of Chinese niobium oxide 99.5%min decreased to RMB293-298/kg (USD42.5-43.2/kg) EXW D/P, down by RMB2/kg (USD0.3/kg) from early last week. As most consumers remain inactive in sending inquiries, insiders predict that the Chinese niobium oxide prices would decrease further in the coming week.
"As columbite price decreased to USD15.5/lb Oxides CIF China, we offer RMB300/kg (USD43.5/kg) EXW D/P for niobium oxide 99.5%min and could accept RMB295/kg (USD42.8/kg) for orders no less than 2t at present, while we could accept RMB297/kg (USD43.1/kg) for the same quantity when we quoted RMB300/kg (USD43.5/kg) early last week," said a producer in South China, who refused to accept an inquiry of 2t from a regular client at around RMB295/kg (USD42.8/kg) early last week. They called the client again and finally sold around 2t at about RMB295/kg (USD42.8/kg) to him early this week. They received no other inquiry so far this week, while they received two inquiries last week. As the demand from most consumers remains weak, the producer plans to lower their price by around RMB2/kg (USD0.3/kg) next week and predicts that the mainstream prices would decrease by around RMB2/kg (USD0.3/kg) in the coming week.
Based on an annual production capacity of 300t, the producer produced nearly 170t in 2022 and almost 32t till now in 2023. They hold around 5t of stocks now, up by 5t from last month. The producer would produce about 10t in April, unchanged from March.
Another producer in South China noted that they quoted RMB295/kg (USD42.8/kg) EXW D/P for niobium oxide 99.5%min and could accept RMB293/kg (USD42.5/kg) for orders no less than 5t today, while they quoted RMB297/kg (USD43.1/kg) for the same quantity and could accept RMB295/kg (USD42.8/kg) for the same quantity early last week.
