BEIJING (Asian Metal) 24 Apr 23 - Due to renewal of mining license, Liaoning Wancheng Magnesite Group Co, one of the most important magnesia producers in China, would resume of all magnesia products on April 18th, a source from the company disclosed to Asian Metal.
"We resumed production of all magnesia products on April 18th. As we need to prepare for production and preheat the furnace, there is no output except 6,000 of caustic calcined magnesia in April," a source from the company revealed, adding that they would probably produce about 15,000t of caustic calcined magnesia, around 4,000t fused magnesia and nearly 4,000t dead burned magnesia next month.
With a production capacity of 120,000tpy for fused magnesia and 100,000tpy for dead burned magnesia respectively, they hold no inventory now. Based on an annual production capacity of 300,000t for caustic calcined magnesia, they totally produced about 75,000t in 2022, which basically all for their own use, not for sale.
As the market remained weak during the past half a month, most producers of caustic calcined magnesia lower their prices slightly since this week. The current mainstream prices of Chinese caustic calcined magnesia 90%min 200mesh (SiO2 3%max; CaO 2%max) stand at RMB930-980/t (USD135-142/t) EXW D/A 180 days, down by RMB20/t (USD2.9/t) from early this month . Although most suppliers decreased their prices slightly due to dim market, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese caustic calcined magnesia would stay steady in the coming week supported by production cost.
