Chinese high-grade silicon metal prices firm

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 20 Apr 23 - Supported by the high production cost, the current mainstream prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 firmly stand at RMB16,300-16,800/t (USD2,368-2,440/t) delivered to main port, unchanged from early last week, while the spot market witnessed few orders this week as buyers keep delaying purchaes due to the lower production cost based on the upcoming wet season, and insiders predict the mainstream prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 in China would go steady next week.
A producer in Yunnan disclosed that his current offer for silicon metal 3-3-03 stands at RMB16,200/t (USD2,353/t) EXW D/P with the discount of RMB200/t (USD29/t) at most for firm bids, in line with his price late last week. "I last sold 60t of silicon metal 3-3-03 at RMB16,500/t (USD2,397/t) delivered to Huangpu two weeks ago, and I didn't close any deals after that as most clients still hesitated to place orders upon the upcoming wet season," revealed the producer on Wednesday. He mentioned that the selling price already approaches to his production cost, and he foresees the mainstream prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 in China would go firm this week.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 17,280t of silicon metal, expects to produce around 700t in April with one of its two furnaces of 12,500kVA in operation, down by about 700t from last month, holding around 1,000t in stock.
A trader in Fujian revealed that he could access RMB16,000/t (USD2,324/t) EXW D/P for silicon metal 3-3-03 from a regular supplier in Yunnan who quoted RMB16,200/t (USD2,353/t), and the supplier could give the further discount of RMB100/t (USD14/t) at most for firm bids, in line with the supplier's price late last week. "I didn't purchase yet as I'm pessimistic about the outlook upon the upcoming wet season and most clients keep delaying purchases," revealed the trader on Wednesday. He added that the wet season supposes to come in late April, but the electricity cost would not drop too much then as the weather keeps drought in South China now. He predicts the mainstream prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 in China would keep stable upon the firm offers from supplier while the sluggish demand in China.
