BEIJING (Asian Metal) 19 Apr 23 - Upon the stabilizing prices in China but depreciated CNY against USD this week, the mainstream import prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Japan hover at USD2,150-2,250/t CIF Japan this week, down by USD30/t from last Friday. Given the remaining slow demand, insiders foresee the import prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Japan would still have some room to go down next week.
A trader in Japan revealed that the current offer for silicon metal 5-3-3 from a regular Chinese supplier stands at USD2,200/t CIF Japan with the discount of USD20/t at most for firm bids, down by USD20/t from his price last Friday, and he didn't purchase yet. "My major Chinese supplier marked prices down slightly upon the stabilized prices in China but depreciated CNY against USD," revealed the trader on Monday who last purchased 100t at USD2,200/t early last week. He pointed out that his major clients remain cautious about the sufficient supply in China and turned reluctant to purchase upon their bearish attitudes toward the outlook, and he predicts the mainstream import prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Japan would slip further next week.
Based on a regular monthly trading volume of 500t of silicon metal, the trader expects to sell around 300t in April, down by 100t from last month due to the fierce competition in Japan, keeping no stocks now.
