Bullish attitudes in Chinese germanium metal market

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 19 Apr 23 - Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min suppliers generally hold bullish attitudes towards the market depends on tight supply of raw materials. Currently, the mainstream prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min hover at RMB9,150-9,550/kg (USD1,330-1,389/kg) EXW D/P, unchanged from this Monday. Market participants forecast that the prevailing prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min would stay firm in rest days of this week supported by strong prices from suppliers presently.
A South-China-based trader noted that, "We hold confidence about germanium metal 99.99%min market and expect that the mainstream prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min would reach to RMB10,000/kg (USD1,454/kg) EXW D/P soon as producers generally could not build raw materials stocks now." They offer RMB9,500/kg (USD1,381/kg) EXW D/P for germanium metal 99.99%min at present and refuse to lower the price even for firm bids, the same as early this week and also unchanged from the end of last week. After they last sold around 50kg at RMB9,500/kg (USD1,381/kg) EXW D/P last Friday, they insisted on the price till now.
The trader, based on a regular monthly trading volume of 100kg of germanium metal 99.99%min, holds around 300kg of inventory now, down by about 50kg from the end of March. They expect to sell around 100kg this month, almost the same as last month. They sold around 600kg in 2022 and around 300kg so far in 2023.
"We forecast that the mainstream prices of Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min would lift up to around RMB10,000/kg (USD1,454/kg) EXW D/P till the end of April as most producers insist on moving up the prices further with limited stocks now," a consumer in Northern China disclosed, adding that they keep watching the market after their regular suppliers moving up the prices to RMB9,500/kg (USD1,381/kg) EXW D/P for germanium metal 99.99%min since late last week. They last purchased around 100kg at RMB9,200/kg (USD1,338/kg) EXW D/P early last week and earlier purchased around 100kg at the same price at the beginning of April.
The consumer, having a consumption capacity of 12tpy of germanium metal 99.99%min, holds around 500kg of stock now, the same as the end of March. They expect to consume around 400kg in March, unchanged from last month. They consumed around 4t in 2022 and around 1.4t in the past three months in 2023.
