BEIJING (Asian Metal) 18 Apr 23 - Dragged by the sluggish demand, the current mainstream prices of chemical silicon metal 4-2-1 in China moved down by RMB500/t (USD72/t) to RMB16,500-17,000/t (USD2,401-2,474/t) delivered from early last week. Given the firm offers but sluggish demand from organosilicon plants, insiders predict the mainstream prices of chemical silicon metal 4-2-1 in China would soften next week.
A consumer in South China revealed that the current offer for silicon metal 4-2-1 from a regular supplier in Sichuan stands at RMB16,700/t (USD2,430/t) delivered D/P with the discount of RMB200/t (USD29/t) at most for firm bids, while the supplier insisted on RMB17,000/t (USD2,474/t) early last week. "I last purchased 500t at RMB17,000/t (USD2,474/t) two weeks ago, I prefer to purchase next week upon my sufficient stocks as our consumption would decrease by around 30% in April," revealed the consumer on Monday. Given the sluggish demand, he predicts the mainstream prices of silicon metal 4-2-1 in China still have some room to go down this week.
The consumer, with an annual consumption capacity of 80,000t of silicon metal, expects to consume around 3,000t in April, down by 2,000t from last month, holding around 4,000t in stock.
A producer in Heilongjiang disclosed that he sold 40t of chemical silicon metal 4-2-1 at RMB17,000/t (USD2,474/t) delivered D/A 180 days on Monday, down by about RMB300/t (USD43/t) from his price early last week. "Most clients halved or quartered their purchase amount in April upon the bearish market, and some major clients already halted production," revealed the producer on Monday. He foresees the mainstream prices of silicon metal 4-2-1 in China would soften next week dragged by the sluggish demand.
With an annual production capacity of 17,500t of silicon metal, the producer expects to produce about 700t in April, down by around 700t from last month, keeping around 1,000t in stock.
