More silicon metal producers in Xinjiang ramp down output

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 14 Apr 23 - Xinjiang's silicon metal output in March accounted for around 65% of the whole output in China, and the operation rate in Xinjiang increased in March supported by the lower production cost than other provinces when many other provinces such as Yunnan, Sichuan decrease operation rate against Feb, while more and more silicon metal producers in Xinjiang stopped or cut output in April dragged by the straightly dropped prices in April, disclosed several producers on Thursday.
"We kept 4 furnaces run in March and we stopped one this week and plan to stop another one next week as the current selling price keeps lower than our production cost, and the output in April would halve against last month," revealed a source from a company in Yili on Thursday. The source disclosed that the electricity cost in Yili hovers at RMB0.35/kwh (USD0.05/kwh), unchanged from last month. The company owns the production capacity of around 52,000t with 2 furnaces of 12,500kVA and 4 of 13,500kVA in total.
"We halt one of our two furnaces production this week dragged by the sluggish demand," revealed a source in another company in Yili on Thursday. He added that the electricity charge remains at RMB0.35/kwh (USD0.05/kwh), unchanged from last month, but they're at the edge of losing money. The company owns the production capacity of around 17,500t with 2 furnaces of 12,500kVA in total.
"We kept three furnaces run in March and we stopped all the three furnaces this week due to the sluggish demand and increased prices of electricity," revealed a source from Hami on Thursday. The source added that the current electricity cost in Hami increased to RMB0.43/kwh (USD0.06/kwh) this month from RMB0.37/kwh (USD0.05/kwh) last month. The company owns the production capacity of around 35,000t with 4 furnaces of 12,500kVA in total.
According to Asian Metal, there are only two or three suppliers decreased output in March, but there are at least five producers in Xinjiang ramped down out in April until now. However, other producers with larger capacity such as HOSHINE, Jingheyuan, Zhonggui Tech claimed that they keep stable output now.
The current mainstream prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in China hover at RMB15,200-15,700/t (USD2,206-2,278/t) delivered to main port, unchanged from Thursday. Insiders still hold negative attitudes towards the outlook.
