Kaiman Aluminum to restart normal alumina production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 13 Apr 23 - Kaiman Aluminum (Sanmenxia) Co., a major alumina producer in Henan of China, would restart normal operation from late April and might produce 150,000t in April, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
"We restarted the third production line early this month and would produce around 150,000t in April," said the source, adding that they plan to restart the fourth line by late this month and might produce 180,000t in May. They kept two lines in operation in March and produced around 80,000t last month for bauxite shortage. From early April, they mixed Australian bauxite with Chinese bauxite.
With four production lines and the total production capacity of 2.2 million tonnes per year, they produced over 300,000t so far this year and over 2 million tonnes in 2022, with no stock now.
Current mainstream prices for alumina 98.5%min in north China keep at RMB2,900-2,920/t (USD421-424/t) EXW, stable from late last week. The purchase demand for alumina remains weak after aluminum smelters cut production from Yunnan.
