BEIJING (Asian Metal) 12 Apr 23 - Chinese gallium metal 99.99%min producers generally held back from selling gallium metal 99.99%min and some of them even asked consumers to provide a highest target price for firm bids over the past week. Currently, the mainstream prices of Chinese gallium metal 99.99%min increase to RMB1,670-1,720/kg (USD243-250/kg) EXW D/P, up by RMB80/kg (USD12/kg) from the end of last week. Insiders believe that the mainstream prices of Chinese gallium metal 99.99%min would keep rising in the coming week considering that most producers wait for higher prices now.
A South-China consumer mentioned that their regular suppliers began to hold back from offering gallium metal 99.99%min since this Monday, while some of the suppliers still could accept the lowest price of RMB1,700/kg (USD247/kg) EXW D/P last Friday. The source said, "Only some traders could offer RMB1,800/kg (USD261/kg) EXW D/P for gallium metal 99.99%min now and we could not build stocks below RMB1,750/kg (USD254/kg) EXW D/P right now as our purchasing experience." They last purchased around 500kg at RMB1,550/kg (USD225/kg) EXW D/P on 20th March and then watched the market till now. Driven by higher prices from producers, they forecast that the mainstream prices of Chinese gallium metal 99.99%min would show an uptrend in rest days of this week.
The consumer, based on a production capacity of 60tpy of gallium metal 99.99%min, consumed around 3.6t last month and about 3.1t in February. They hold no stock now, the same as the end of last month. They consumed around 37.4t in 2022 and about 10t in the past three months in 2023.
"We could not purchase gallium metal 99.99%min anywhere at present as most producers hold back from selling," the source said, and adding that they ever tried to purchase around 600kg of gallium metal 99.99%min early last week, while only purchased around 300kg totally as the producer refused to share more. They last purchased around 300kg at RMB1,620/kg (USD235/kg) EXW D/P early last week and expect that the current price keeps higher than RMB1,780/kg (USD259/kg) EXW D/P now. They are of the opinion that the mainstream prices of Chinese gallium metal 99.99%min would go up further within this week.
