Silicon metal prices in Europe edge down

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 7 Apr 23 - Dragged by the sluggish demand, the current mainstream prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Europe edged down by EUR50/t (USD54/t) to EUR2,650-2,750/t (USD2,893-3,002/t) D.D.P this week from early last week. Given the few orders along with the upcoming easter holiday, insider predict the mainstream prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Europe would go soft next week.
"I sold 60t of silicon metal 5-5-3 at EUR2,650/t (USD2,893/t) D.D.P this week to a regular client, while I insisted on at least EUR2,700/t (USD2,947/t) early last week," revealed a trader in East Europe on Thursday. He added that the current price of silicon metal 5-5-3 from China slipped to USD2,200/t (EUR2,050/t) FOB China, which allows him to give some discount this week dragged by the shrinking demand from aluminum plants, and he predicts the mainstream prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Europe would remain softening upon the few orders next week as the easter holiday would last until next Wednesday.
The trader, based on a regular monthly trading volume of 100t of silicon metal, foresees to sell around 50t at most in April, down by around 30t from last month, holding around 50t in stock.
Another trader in West Europe disclosed that he insisted on EUR2,750/t (USD3,002/t) early last week but he sold 30t of Northern Europe originated silicon metal 5-5-3 at EUR2,700/t (USD2,947/t) this week discouraged by the weakening demand. "I could close at least one deal in February but I couldn't close one deal within two weeks in March, and I agreed with the buyer's bid this week," revealed the trader on Thursday. He added that the easter holiday is coming, and he foresees the market would become more inactive and prices of silicon metal 5-5-3 in Europe would go soft next week.
