BEIJING (Asian Metal) 5 Apr 23 - Dragged by the softening prices in China, the current mainstream import prices silicon metal 3-3-03 moved down by USD30t to USD2,400-2,500/t CIF Japan from late last week. Given the sluggish demand in Japan, insiders predict the mainstream import prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 would go down further next week.
A trader in Japan disclosed that the current offer for silicon metal 3-3-03 hits USD2,400/t CIF Japan with no discount from a regular Chinese supplier who insisted on USD2,430/t early last week, and he delayed the purchase until next week. "I last purchased 60t at USD2,500/t CIF two weeks ago, and most Chinese suppliers could give the discount of USD30/t this week upon the slipped prices in China, and I believe the import prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 in Japan would go down further as my major client cut their purchase volume by at least 30% in March," revealed the trader on Tuesday.
Based on a regular monthly trading volume of 200t of silicon metal, the trader expects to sell around 100t in April, down by 100t from last month due to the fierce competition in Japan, holding no stocks now.
Another trader in Japan revealed that he bought 30t of silicon meal 3-3-03 at USD2,440/t last Friday from a regular Chinese supplier, while the supplier could give him USD2,400/t CIF this week for firm bids, and he hang up the purchase at present. "Chinese suppliers marked prices down slightly as the price in China dropped by RMB200/t (USD29/t) this week, and I foresee the mainstream import prices of silicon metal 3-3-03 would go down further upon the heavy stocks in China and sluggish demand in Japan," revealed the trader on Tuesday.
