Chinese chemical silicon metal prices drop

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 5 Apr 23 - Dragged by the sluggish demand, the current mainstream prices of chemical silicon metal 4-2-1 in China dropped by RMB300/t (USD43/t) to RMB17,200-17,700/t (USD2,496-2,569/t) delivered D/A 180 days from late last week. Given the weak demand, insiders predict the mainstream prices of silicon metal 4-2-1 in China would drop further next week.
A consumer in North China revealed that he bought 500t of silicon metal 4-2-1 at RMB17,500/t (USD2,540/t) delivered D/A 180 days this week from a supplier who insisted on RMB17,800/t (USD2,583/t) last Friday. "Our consumption volume would cut by at least 30% in April MoM dragged by the sluggish demand of organosilicon," revealed the consumer on Tuesday. Given the sluggish demand, he predicts the mainstream prices of silicon metal 4-2-1 in China would drop further next week.
The consumer, with an annual consumption capacity of 50,000t of silicon metal, expects to consume around 3,000t in April, down by 1,000t from last month, keeping around 2,000t in stock.
Another consumer in South China revealed that he bought 500t of silicon metal 4-2-1 at RMB17,200/t (USD2,496/t) delivered D/A 180 days on Tuesday from a supplier in Sichuan who insisted on RMB17,500/t (USD2,540/t) late last week. "Our consumption would cut by abound 50% in April against regular level discouraged by the sluggish demand of our ending products," revealed the consumer on Tuesday. He added that his suppliers still could consider further discount for firm bids upon the sluggish demand in the market, and he predicts the mainstream prices of silicon metal 4-2-1 in China would go down further next week.
