Gansu Taihe suspended black silicon carbide production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 27 Mar 23 - A major black silicon carbide producer in Gansu, Gansu Taihe New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. suspended black silicon carbide production on 15th March due to equipment upgrading and expected to produce resume in late August.
"We suspended production on 15th March to upgrade our furnace and install environmental protectional equipment", a source from the company revealed, noting that they produced about 1,800t this month and predict to finish construction and resume in late August.
With a current production capacity of 50,000tpy, the company produced only about 30,000t in 2022 and they plan to produce about 15,000t this year. They hold an inventory of nearly 5,000t at present.
The current mainstream prices of black silicon carbide 98%min 0-10mm Fe2O3 0.5%max free C 0.2%max stand at RMB8,600/t (USD1,254/t) EXW D/A 180 days in Gansu, in line with early this week. The market witnessed limited deals as the market demand remained sluggish since early March. Nonetheless, in view of the high production costs, market participants predict that the prevailing prices of Chinese black silicon carbide would remain stable in the forthcoming week.
