SPIC Shanxi Aluminum to prepare increasing imported bauxite consumption volume

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 22 Mar 23 - SPIC Shanxi Aluminum Co., a major bauxite producer in north China, plans to shift two more production lines for imported bauxite two months later and the imported bauxite consumption volume would double to over 400,000tpm from this June, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
"We would shift two more production lines for imported bauxite two months later and the consumption volume would double to over 400,000tpm from this June," said the source, who would use over 200,000t of imported bauxite in March, similar to last month based on current two imported-bauxite-based production lines.
With the imported bauxite consumption capacity of 5.4 million tonnes per year, they used around 3.7 million tonnes in 2022 and over 600,000t so far this year, with current stocks lasting for close to two months.
Present mainstream prices for Guinean bauxite Al2O3 45%min SiO2 3%max stand at USD65.5-67.5/dt CIF China, stable from late last week. Despite the bauxite export ban from Indonesia, the bauxite supply from Guinea increased, so bauxite prices failed to go up over the past two weeks.
